Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy - 1264 Words
Descartesââ¬â¢ Meditations on First Philosophy is a first-person record of Descartesââ¬â¢ descent into the bowels of disbelief, in order to eradicate all flawed belief from his life. In his first meditation, Descartes explains his argument for universal doubt, which leads him to doubt every truth he has ever established. Even the veracity of his sense perception is doubtful, as he renders those perceptions useless by arguing that in dreams, sense perceptions create the wildest of fantasies that cannot be true. Therefore, how can we trust that we are not in a dream? He furthers his argument by saying that if we believe in a God that is all powerful, then that God has all power to deceive us even in base mathematical truths. When we think of two added to two equaling four, an all-powerful being could disrupt the processes in our minds so that we actually think it is five. Considering that there is not a God that would willingly deceive us, there could still be a powerful and evil demon that would be malicious enough to deceive us. Therefore, nothing in our perception of the world or even our thoughts can be considered as completely truthful. In Descartesââ¬â¢ second Meditation, he presents his first premise and argument for personal existence, or the ââ¬Å"cogitoâ⬠. In this argument, he looks inward and searches for any stable truth to grab hold of. He reasons that even if he perceives his existence in a fallible way, he is still existing in the process of those perceptions. Leeââ¬â¢s film Brokeback Mountain Free Essays
Ang Leeââ¬â¢s film, Brokeback Mountain, is one of passion, emotional struggle, heartache in relationships and unanswered questions in everyday life. Using a natural setting and authentic attire he examines the tumultuous relationship of two cowboys in a rugged area of Wyoming. The film poses various questions for the viewer, and how one is able to examine life, while fearing suspicion and choices, plagued with guilt and uncertainty. There is a thin line between love and obsession, and the basic human needs of affection, attention and survival all need to be nurtured. Communication is necessary, and divorce may be a result of a combination of lying, deceit and hiding oneââ¬â¢s true self (Rose Urschel 2006). This also proves that the reality of a dilemma can either be found in a one-night stand, or an affair that lasts for decades. Brokeback Mountain allows the viewer a chance to reflect upon our own values of consequence, presenting a very real relationship. When we usher aside our feelings of sexuality between two men, we can understand this to be a universal romance story. This forces us to understand a new knowledge of a bond between humans that transcends gender and stigma, and that, while circumstances may be different for each individual, we are all ultimately striving for happiness and love. Organisational Behaviour Factors Contribute to Organisational Success The research in context to organisational behaviour with reference to Marriot group of hotels (Australia) three theories are identified, viz. (i) human relations; (ii) scientific management; and (iii) systems theory. The relevance of these theories is mainly linked with the culture persisting within the organisation which in turn governs the interaction mode of people with each other. According to Tuna et al. Theory of Scientific Management According to Karatepe et al. (2014, pp. 307), the scientific management theory dictates that the company focuses on economic efficiency and labour productivity through motivational incentives. Another factor is the responsibility of safety, health and wellbeing of their gusts and associates. This healthy workplace environment responsible towards the organisational success and several formal programs have been arranged in this respect.
